Kate is a Documentary, Lifestyle and Wedding Photographer based out of Montreal, Canada. Her personal documentary work looks at human experiences of creativity & culture.

Hi, I’m Kate

Honestly I’m just lucky that cameras exist otherwise I’d probably be caught staring too much. Ever since I was a kid I’ve seen the world as a series of photos. The day I realized that we are all characters in another person’s story, and that abstract thing called light puts on a daily performance, life became more of a playground for visual observation.

I’m a photographer with a background in the arts and documentary storytelling, and I’ve spent over a decade capturing real moments, beauty, and meaning through the visual world. I’ve worked with couples, individuals, and emerging brands to tell their stories. I want to make images that feel alive and I try to capture the details and beauty that might otherwise be missed. It seems it’s often those frames that end up making us pause and connect to an image!

Your wedding day? A portrait session that brings out your essence? Documentary-style photos to help your brand connect more deeply with its audience? I’m here for it.

I’m curious about anything related to human experience, beauty and humour. You can take a look at some of my personal projects, or maybe we can make something amazing together.

Some extra things you might be interested in ( before I show up like a stranger with a camera pointed at you..)

We’re not totally strangers. I love: your light sarcasm, deep chats (I won’t force it on you), stories about animals and funny things that kids do, exploring odd or new spaces, dabbling in numerous arty hobbies like music, writing and painting, and making basic comments about different foliage, which has only increased since turning 35 .

Some Facts & Humble Creds:

  • I have an honours degree in art studies but I never really say that because it feels pompous for some reason. So this feels like my chance. Anyway it definitely helped shape my eye and my ability to find meaning in images. I also took a minor in business, so you can also trust me to help you with visuals that aren’t just the arty whimsy ones (though I do love those).

  • I’ve been shooting professionally for about 13 years. Over a decade ago I used to take photos of high-end architecture & commercial real-estate (basically I got to see billion dollar homes all day) but being alone in rooms all day was definitely not for me. Turns out I’m more interested in people and visual ideas. I am a fan of interesting spaces though—whether they’re abandoned, or the Taj Mahal.

  • Galleries sometimes show my personal photography projects. Back when I was obsessed with Street Photography (candid photos of people out in the world) my work was shown in an exhibition called In the City at Fresh Paint Gallery in Montreal. These days I’m hoping that my documentary work about the nature of creativity and spaces will land in another exhibition once it’s finished.

  • I moved to Montreal in 2014 by surprise with just a backpack and a camera. I moved from Vancouver and I stayed because it’s the most creatively charged city I’ve ever come across.
